The Dual Process Model of Coping with Grief and Loss. A concept to inform Dance Movement Therapy practice

The events in the Ukraine are leaving thousands of people struggling with loss and grief. Theoretical constructs to explain the phenomenon of grief can help dance movement therapists to develop interventions specifically suited to the issues of their clients. They also can help clients to understand their reactions to loss.
The dual process model of grief sees bereavement as a dialectical process oscillating between loss-orientation and restoration-orientation. It was designed to overcome the limitations of earlier phase- and task-oriented theories. It not only describes the elements of healthy dealing with grief, it also helps to understand interpersonal clashing, when relational partners deal with grief differently. Beyond grief, the dual process model is also applicable to homesickness, another phenomenon that refugees and their caregivers are confronted with.

- present examples of DMT Interventions related to this theoretical construct,some as experientials
- open a discussion of the constructs with the participants

Тисячі людей в Україні борються з втратою і горем. Теоретичні конструкти для пояснення феномена горя можуть допомогти танцювально- руховим терапевтам розробити інтервенції, спеціально допасовані до проблем клієнтів. Вони також можуть допомогти клієнтам зрозуміти їх реакцію на втрату.
Дуальна модель процесу горя бачить втрату як діалектичний процес коливання між втратою і відновленням орієнтації. Вона була розроблена для подолання обмежень попередніх теорій, орієнтованих на фази і задачі. Вона не тільки описує елементи здорового проживання горя, вона також допомагає зрозуміти міжособистісні конфлікти, коли партнери по різному відносяться до подолання горя. Крім горя, Модель Дуального процесу також може бути застосована до ностальгії, ще одного явища, з яким стикаються біженці та їхні опікуни.
На вебінарі буде:
• введення в теорію і її застосування для DMT втручання
• справжні приклади DMT втручань, пов'язані з цією теоретичною конструкцєю, деякі, як дослідження
• обговорення конструктів з учасниками.

With these webinars TAOMI aims to provide helping professionals with the necessary knowledge and tools to approach specific issues related to war trauma.
In addition, TAOMI aims to raise funds from the webinars to support volunteers in the field and provide group supervision where sought. When registering for a webinar you can support these projects by buying a 'solidarity ticket' (more than one if you wish!) to enable a Ukrainian colleague to attend for FREE. All surplus funds will support the pro bono projects.
